Capture, structure, remember, operate

A short summary of how context moves through KOS. It simplifies the full knowledge lifecycle described in the documentation.

Four stages

  1. 01

    Capture

Bring briefs, notes, and source material into KOS as Markdown.

  2. 02

    Structure

Place them in projects, knowledge, and decision records that follow consistent conventions.

  3. 03

    Remember

Keep decisions and handoffs current so they outlast any single session.

  4. 04

    Operate

Work with supported AI tools against the maintained files, then review what changes.

One project, start to handoff

A synthetic project shows how maintained context, AI-assisted work, and human review produce a handoff someone can pick up.

Synthetic example
  1. Maintained context

    Atlas billing rewrite

The project brief states the goal, constraints, and what is out of scope. Two earlier decisions are recorded with their reasons.

    brief.md · decisions
  2. AI-assisted work

    Draft the migration plan

An AI session reads the brief and decisions before proposing a plan, instead of being re-briefed from memory.

    session notes
  3. Human review

    Accept, edit, or reject

You review the plan. One step conflicts with a recorded decision, so you reject it and note why.

    decision D-014
  4. Handoff

    Pick it up on Thursday

A handoff records what is done, what is open, and the next step. The next session, in the same or a different supported tool, starts there.
